چکیده

Rare earths are critical elements in our modern societies and the ever-increasing demand raises fears of supply risks coming years. This work dealt with feasibility extracting rare earth (REEs) from an industrial waste product exploitation phosphate ores “Djebel Onk” Tébessa eastern region Algeria. The solid residue was first leached at room temperature three different inorganic acids (HNO3, H2SO4 H3PO4) various concentrations leaching times. It possible to recover almost 100% La, Ce, Eu, Gd Y HNO3 3 N 24 h. However, only about 10% Yb were leached. leachates further treated two organophosphorous extractants, trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) chloroform. A virtually total extraction Gd, achieved TOPO 0.3 M. efficiency light (LREEs), La 38 55%, respectively. Very good selectivities between heavy (HREEs), LREEs as well medium (MREEs) obtained but unable selectively separate HREEs MREEs. Although D2EHPA led lower REEs than TOPO, it showed interesting performance for selective separation into fractions corresponding (La Ce), MREEs (Eu Gd) (Y Yb).

Mechanical activation of phosphate concentrates to enhance dissolution efficiency of rare earth elements from a kinetic viewpoint

The Esfordi phosphate concentrate mainly contains fluorapatite, monazite, and xenotime as rare earth element (REE) minerals, accounting for 1.5% of rare earth metals. The monazite and xenotime minerals are refractory and their decomposition is only possible at high temperatures. Thus mechanical activation was used in the present work for this purpose. After 90 minutes of mechanical activation, ...

On the Extraction of Rare Earth Elements from Geothermal Brines

The availability of rare earth elements from primary resources has come into question in the last two decades. This has sparked various government and industry initiatives to examine potential rare earth element resources apart from virgin ore bodies. Geothermal fluids are potentially significant sources of valuable minerals and metals, while co-recovery with geothermal energy production would ...

Concentration and recycling of rare earth elements (REEs) from iron mine waste using a combination of physical separation methods

This study aims to investigate and optimize the effects of the main parameters including the particle size, gravity and magnetic separation combination, high gradient magnetic separation, magnetic field intensity, shaking table slope, washing water flow, and electrostatic separation upon the rare earth element (REE) recoveries from iron mine waste. The electron microprobe showed that high amoun...

Rare Earth Elements Profile

Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...
